Expedia Links up with NFFTY to have Alumni Compete in Short Film Contest07/06/2012
This year marks the first year that Expedia has teamed up with NFFTY to have a Short Film Contest specifically for NFFTY Alumni Filmmakers! Expedia announced this first ever film contest opening night, NFFTY 2012. Thirty-seven filmmakers were chosen to make films that celebrate travel in various and touching aspects of the word and to express in about three minutes or less how travel has “inspired, shaped, or altered their view of the world.” With each filmmaker creating an idea that links to the theme—“Find Yours” there is wide variety in the storylines of the thirty-seven films. Ideas have ranged from “Find Your Goodbye” to “Dream—Find Yours.”
Besides the clear passion for storytelling that is obvious from the talent and caliber that these films exude is the fact that the winning filmmaker wins $10,000! So how is such an important choice made? By going onto the Facebook website for the NFFTY Expedia Short Film Contest anyone, anywhere can vote for the films they think should be finalists. You can vote every day for multiple films until July 9th.
Getting more perspective from the point of view of the filmmakers behind the lenses Eric Schofhauser (one of the filmmakers) said what inspired him to make his film—“Find Your Wake Up Call.” “The inspiration for our film was really just our love for adventure and nature and seeing new things or seeing old things in a new way. Travelling to us is a way to escape the daily grinds of suburbia and urban life. Those “find yours” moments I guess. And when Nav and I get to find ourselves out in nature, dwarfed by its intricacies and majesty, there’s some incredible moments in there.”
When asked what he would do with the money if he won Eric responded, “With the money, we’d probably split it up between new camera gear, a road trip adventure, college expenses, and whatever spontaneous adventure that comes our way.”
Seeing as this is a great way for filmmakers to get money for future films and for them to easily share with the world their own works, it is in all hopes that Expedia works with NFFTY in future years to keep this tradition going. Voting closes July 9th! Vote today: http://on.fb.me/LQPDH2
