NFFTY Seeking Executive Director – A Letter from Jesse Harris07/19/2012
I started NFFTY in 2007 as a 21 year-old. After pouring my heart and soul into the organization as Co-Founder and Executive Director for 6 years, it grew from a one-night event to the largest youth film festival in the world and the most prestigious showcase of talented young directors.
As an accomplished filmmaker myself, I’ve known that I couldn’t run NFFTY day-to-day forever without getting the bug to spend more time directing commercials and films that I love. So we started a slow transition plan earlier this year that would allow me to spend more time on my personal creative endeavors without hurting the organization. This January I transitioned from Executive Director to Artistic Director. Lindsey Johnson, our Managing Director, and I split the role of leading the organization for the 2012 festival.
I will remain Artistic Director and a member of the board. Lindsey will remain Managing Director, and together we will make sure NFFTY continues to sustain its highest level of quality, and in addition grows to offer more programs and opportunities for young filmmakers. However, it’s now time to find someone to replace the role of Executive Director who can take over the day-to-day leadership role, providing their own fresh ideas, experience and passion.
So what’s going to change? Very little. Our other festival staff will still remain, I’ll still be involved in creative aspects and help maintain our partnerships and community outreach, however we will have a new organizational leader to help NFFTY be even better than it is now. We’re all very excited!
