48 HR Film Off @ U.S. Open of Surfing
Congratulations to Chris Steen of Huntington Beach, California- the winner of the Nike 6.0 48 Hour Film Off at the U.S. Open of Surfing! Steen wrote, shot, and edited the winning film, Mad Wax, by himself in only 48 hours and will receive a $1,500 cash prize from Nike 6.0.
Each of the competing teams, also including Leaf Productions and Shadowman Productions, had to shoot at least one scene at the Nike 6.0 Motel No Tell in Huntington Beach. The films also needed to include ‘a Primo moment’ as the overall theme, ‘surf wax’ as a prop, and “720 P-C-H” as the line of dialogue.
A screening of the films was held on Sunday, August 8th at the Motel No Tell. Films competed via audience voting and jury scoring. Members of the jury included Antonio Ballatore, HGTV’s Design Star Season 4 winner and designer of the Nike 6.0 Motel No Tell, Joshua Pomer, producer of Newport Beach Film Festival selected surf film, The Westsiders, and other NFFTY and Nike 6.0 representatives.
CONTEST CLUES
1) Line of Dialogue: “P-C-H” (The letters must be explained and must stand for something other than “Pacific Coast Highway”)
2) Prop: SURF WAX
3) Theme: A ‘Primo’ Moment
4) 1 minimum scene must be filmed on-site of the Nike 6.0 Motel No Tell and at the beach.

Senior Prom screening @ SIFF cinema tonight
NFFTY fans, here’s your chance to watch a great film by a NFFTY filmmaker alumnus. Seventeen year old Nicholas Terry, who showcased his music video at NFFTY 2010, has a brand new romantic comedy ‘Senior Prom’ debuting at SIFF.
‘Senior Prom’, captures the absurdity and perceived commitment level in high school relations…hips. Terry embeds stereotypical high school romantic situations in the seminal social event of prom. The film follows 10 characters in a variety of intertwined comedic narratives: Shawn and Shelley have dated for 8 years and want prom to be everything they have imagined since 4th grade; Zach is “relationship challenged” but finds any hilariously awkward way to ask Lynsey to the dance; Miles volunteers for the prom-planning committee just to be close to Brittany and soon finds himself over-committed. Senior Prom is more than a teenage rom-com; Terry digs deep into his film and provides an insightful commentary on high school.
