NFFTY Alumni
NFFTY filmmakers have ranged in age from 7 to 22 and represent broad cross sections of ethnicity, geography and socio-economic backgrounds. Young filmmakers from throughout the U.S. have submitted films, as well as those from 12 countries around the world.
NFFTY films and filmmakers are already making waves in the industry. NFFTY 08 “March Point” was broadcast on PBS and Cody Cayou, Nick Clark and Travis Tom were offered college scholarships. The NFFTY 08 Audience and Thomson Innovation Award winner “Animal Instincts” has won 20 awards at film festivals around the world and was selected by the 3D Factory to be converted into 3D. Ben Kadie holds the unique status of having a film selected for every NFFTY thus far, and won the NFFTY 09 Trip to LA awarded by HBO.
Here’s what a few NFFTY alumni have to say about the festival:
"When I entered NFFTY, I was a young girl from Omaha, Nebraska where the idea of working in the film industry was impractical. I entered the festival with a dream, but with no expectations. What I did not anticipate was NFFTY to give me hope and confidence not only as a filmmaker, but as a person. It was an invaluable experience that I'm sure was felt by all young filmmakers involved."
-Molly Grant-Leanna, 17, Release, NFFTY '08
"NFFTY was the most important weekend of my life.
-Gene Kim, 18, Touch the Stars, NFFTY '08
“I left Seattle incredibly inspired and with unforgettable memories I will carry with me for years to come.”
-Florencia Krochik, 22, Without Papers, NFFTY '09
“NFFTY was AMAZING! NFFTY has just inspired me to begin work on several new projects!”
-Torrance Carroll, 19, The Zonus Project, NFFTY '09
