Keynote: Matty Brown

Like being sucked into a dream, Matty Brown's visual and emotional style is like a colorful tornado instilling inspiration and empathy into any audience. Nominated for an Emmy at the 2013 50th Annual Emmy Awards for "The Piano" as well as being a 2016 honoree at The Webby Awards for his film "Tangents", Matty still remains humble yet eclectic in every form. Having the most Vimeo Staff Picks in the world, Matty's very signature style has sent a shockwave through the film industry influencing other creatives to adopt his unusual techniques. He has been featured in various festivals and publications around the world such as Tribeca Film Festival, Sundance, New York Times, 60 Minutes, Ellen, The Atlantic Magazine, Indiewire, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, etc. He was recently awarded the 2018 Independent Spirit Award 'Story Award’.

Originally from Rough & Ready, CA, with a sense of wonderment and awe for nature, Matty always felt the need to create. After becoming homeless by the age of twelve, Matty's sense of self and creativity was a struggle as he battled with his dreams of the future. Then he hit a breakthrough; his passion reemerged, escalating, causing him to start filming everything. Matty's life experiences have inspired him to create an up-close approach to his work, capturing adversity, simplicity, and people at their core. He brings vulnerability into every piece and at the same time reassurance.
